Admission

Admission requires the submission of an application form, a copy of passport or birth certificate, previous school records (if applicable), and payment of the $100 registration fee.

Student Placement

Following official admission procedures, a placement examination is given to each student to determine the appropriate level of instruction. The test involves reading, writing and mathematics.

Progress Reports

Student “Status Reports” are sent home five (5) times a year. Student progress or mastery of the curriculum is reported as either “A” or “B”. Individual narrative reports are sent home three (3) times, once each term. Parent-teacher conferences are scheduled three (3) times, once each term.

Transportation

The school offers a round trip bus service. The routing locations can be obtained from the school’s bus coordinator. KIS transportation does not service the Left Bank and some other areas of Kyiv. Students who subscribe for transportation are eligible to use the activity bus when they are involved in after school activities.

Cafeteria Services

The school cafeteria offers a healthy lunch (meal with 3 hot items, drink, soup or salad, dessert) for students from the age of 5. This includes take-out-lunches for day-excursions. The cafeteria also offers a class-delivered snack box (Juice, fruit/vegetable, sandwich or similar) for the 4-9 year olds. For the 4 year olds this is the only in-school meal, for the 5-9 year olds it is an additional meal.

Governance

Quality Schools International, a nonprofit private educational organization, manages the school. A Director administers Kyiv International School. A full-time Director of Instruction directs the educational program. An appointed Advisory Board supports the school in the community.

Parent Support Group (PSG)

The PSG is a parent elected support group involved in activities and projects with a view to improve the school. All parents are encouraged to become actively involved with the school through this program.

Staffing

Native English speaking experienced teachers from western countries are employed. Some other nationalities are hired for instruction in special areas.

Membership

Quality Schools International is a member of the Central Eastern European Schools Association (CEESA) and a member of the Association for the Advancement of International Education (AAIE). KIS is also a member of the International Baccalaureate Organization.

Accreditation

The school is fully accredited in the United States by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. The school also receives support from the United States Office of Overseas Schools.
